Alumni June Meeting and
Diploma of Distiction Award

Monday, June 11 @7:00 PM
Independence High School Media Center (Library)

Please join us for our next general meeting where we will be honoring our Diploma of Distinction winner. We will begin our meeting honoring Mr. Tony DiGeronimo, class of 1975, who is an Independence business owner and philanthropist. Tony was our first lifetime member who supports numerous charitable organizations and is a member of St. Michael Church.

After our ceremony we will dig into those wonderful delicacies Pat Stephan always provides us.

  • and any unique items

Help Us Make 2018 A Great
Fund-Raising Success

Our biggest fundraiser of the year is just around the corner! Our Breakfast in the Park on Home Days Weekend gets bigger and better every year, but it takes A LOT of people working together to make it the best that it can be--and continue to raise money for scholarships and other programs and events we sponsor at our alma mater.

In an effort to keep our Breakfast in the Park ticket cost very affordable, we don't really make much on the cost of the breakfast itself--we generate revenue for the association with the 50/50 and Chinese Raffle at the event and in our Home Days tent.

And that's where you can really help us make 2018 a great fund-raising success. Kelly Hatfield is already at work on the theme baskets and bundles for the Chinese Raffle and she can use your donations. If you are willing to buy or ask for a donation of a gift card to a store or a restaurant in the area, that would be awesome. Movie tickets, theatre tickets, and tickets to sporting events are great too. If you have an extra bottle of wine or two, or an interesting bottle of liquor, those, too, make for popular baskets. Unique jewelry or other accessories are also good items. Other ideas are welcome, too--and your donations will make an already amazing event event better!

Please do consider coming to our June 11 meeting at 7 pm at the IHS media center and bring your donation with you. If you are out of town or unable to make the meeting, Kelly will accept your donations any time, before or after the meeting. Please feel free to contact her at: kellyhatfieldwmc@yahoo.com.

No gift is too small...all are welcome and very much appreciated.

Alumni Breakfast in the Park

The IHS Alumni Breakfast in the Park is an annual event held the Sunday of Homedays weekend from 9:30 a.m. until noon, at Elmwood Park Kiwanis Pavilion. All are welcome to attend. Bring family and friends. Reacquaint with old school chums and review the offering of gift baskets to be raffled. This casual event has become an annual class gathering point and reunion social. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Advance sales guarantees a reservation. A limited number of tickets will be available the day of the event. Contact Pat (Czarniak 60) Stephan, via email czar77step@cox.net.

Home Days Booth

Bring your calendar so you can easily sign-up for a Home Days booth shift. We are looking for shift workers on Friday, August 3rd (5-11) and Saturday, August 4th (noon - 11).

Your Association at work. Did you know?

Graduating Senior Awards. In ten years our Association has given 17 Graduating Senior Awards totaling $7,600.00. In 2009 the Association awarded $100.00 to one student. In 2016 and 2017, we awarded $500.00 each to two students ($1,000.00 per year). A ten-fold annual increase.

Educator of Excellence. Each year the Association selects and recognizes a past or present Educator of Excellence at a noon luncheon in the High School. The program is very well received and about 70 Alumni, teachers (past and present), school administrators and family members attend. Recipients include: Jeff Enkler, Geraldine Kaftan, Karl Schuld, Ken Gunlicks and Joe O’Brien.
